KK Diocese Accepts Diocesan Plan

BUNDU TUHAN(CS).- The Kota Kinabalu Diocese entered a new era when it accepted officially June 8 a pastoral plan that outlines the thrust of the diocese for the next seven years.

"I officially authorize this Diocesan Organisational Pastoral Plan (DOPP) to be used in our diocese," said Bishop John Lee at the end of the concluding Mass in conjunction with the Second Diocesan Pastoral Planning Workshop (DPPW II) here.

With the authorization, the DOPP now governs the life of the faithful especially toward the realization of the Vision: A caring communion of Christ-centred communities journeying together in faith, hope and love, empowered by the Holy Spirit in the evangelizing mission of building the Kingdom of God.

At a glance, the plan presented at the June 5-8 workshop is comprehensive and wholistic for it covers the physical, structural, human and spiritual dimensions of renewal.

During the Mass at the St Pius X Church here, a draft statement of the plan was offered during the presentation of the gifts which symbolized among others, the 150 organizers and delegates' appreciation and gratitude to God for helping them to prepare and complete the plan.

The plan was drawn up through a collective discussion, deliberation and discernment in last year's DPPW and the Organisational Planning System (OPS) workshop last October using a technology introduced by Fr Manny Guazon of the Southeast Asia Interdisciplinary Institute (SAIDI), Philippines.

Keningau Bishop Proposes A Wachter Memorial

TENOM(CS).- Bishop Cornelius Piong of Keningau proposed to have a memorial erected to honour a missionary priest who helped spreed the Good News in Sabah more than 50 years ago.

"I think it is appropriate and great if we could build a monument to commemorate the late Msgr Augustine Wachter for historical interest in the Catholic faith pioneered by him and other missionaries," he said when he declared open the parish-level Kaamatan Festival which jointly celebrated his and the diocese's fourth anniversary at St Anthony here May 25.

Wachter was appointed the fourth Prefect Apostolic of North Borneo on 26 July 1927 as well as the rector of St Michael Penampang (which he built) and founder of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception.

He and eight other missionaries were believed to have died somewhere in the Sapong Estate, Tenom, between July and August 1945 during the Japanese Occupation.

Inanam Parish Helps Outstation With 'gotong-royong'

MENGGATAL(CS).- Catechists of Inanam Parish responded to the need of an outstation when they converged for a 'gotong-royong' at Kg Kokol here recently.

Led by Rector Fr Alex Sipanul, they took part in a half-day manual labour using only digging apparatus such as shovel, spade and hoe to break and level the earth to prepare the site for the construction of a new chapel.

According to Catechist Hendryta Martin, the old St Joseph's Chapel was severely damaged by tropical storm Greg in December last year.

Martin said that currently "we are using the mini hall for Sunday liturgy and other indoor religious activities."

The rector hoped that upon completion, the new chapel could gradually be extended and improved in terms of facilities to meet the demands of the growing number of faithful in that village.

The 'gotong-royong' was a good opportunity for the catechists to establish good rapport among themselves because they seldom meet one another when working under the big parish which covers Inanam, Menggatal, Telipok and numerous outstations.
